With Christmas TV ads on seemingly constant rotation and in-store decorations reminding shoppers that 25 December is only a matter of days away, Brand View is tracking the price and promotion of the official Hamley’s Top Ten Toys for Christmas across selected retailers*
Since mid November all retailers bar Harrods, have seen a decrease in shelf price, perhaps signalling the start to the pre-Christmas promotion rush.
Littlewoods has seen one of the largest drops in shelf price, falling almost 24 percent over a three day period, leaving them with the largest depth of cut across all the retailers. Despite previously being the second most expensive retailer, this drop in price across all toys, has see them fall more in line with the other retailers.
Harrods are the only retailer to only stock one of the Top Ten Toys, the Hasbro Transformers Stomp ‘N’ Chomp Grimlock, and are yet to run any promotions, leaving them the most expensive retailer.
Tesco Direct are currently the cheapest retailer for the toys, with an average shelf price almost £3 lower than their closest rival. However, only two of the toys are currently on promotion within Tesco Direct, meaning that they are offering these low prices irrespective of promotions.
